He owned an art gallery in Paris

Before he started with his career in fashion and arts, Dior initially wanted to be an architect while
his parents expected him to study politics. In his early years, he enrolled himself in Paris Institute of
Political Studies, popularly known as Sciences Po, in Paris. But political studies was not his thing so
he decided to open his very own art gallery. His art galleries had works of Pablo Picasso, Man Ray,
Marcel Duchamp, Joan Miro and many more famous artists. It’s all his passion for art and detail
which makes his pieces - a requisite of modern luxury. Now, it’s their Dior customization service,
“ABDDior”, currying the new flavour of luxury.

Feminist did not like his creations

As discussed earlier, Christian Dior initially wanted to be an architect, so he was always a keen
observer of forms, lines and abstracts. This is still an arresting feature of his creations - he wanted
to achieve a well-proportioned look with his designs. This made him pay particular emphasis on
‘hips’ and ‘bust’. For a matter of fact, one of his most popular pieces, the “Bar Jacket”, follows a
curved line of the bust and tightens at the waist. He created this collection to accentuate the women’s
curves. However, feminists opposed his collection as it required women to be uncomfortable - wear
corsets and paddings in order to fit in the Dior set standards.

The story behind the Miss Dior perfume

It was during the World War II that Catherine Dior, who’s Christian Dior’s sister and also a member
of French Resistance, was captured by Gestapo and transferred to Ravensbrück concentration camp,
Germany. She stayed imprisoned until 1945 and “Miss Dior” was a tribute to her.
It is a very floral fragrance which refers to the time he spent with her in South of France, in Grasse.

He employed Yves Saint-Laurent

Yes, believe it - Christian Dior is the employer of Yves Saint-Laurent.
Yves was his design assistant in the year 1955, he was only 19 years old back then.
It’s only after 2 years that Christian Dior died from a fatal heart attack
and that when Yves Saint-Laurent became the artistic director of this huge fashion house.
