Love Acting? Here Are 4 Theatre Groups You Can Join In Your Free Time
Always felt that acting pulls the right strings for you, but never got the chance to showcase your acting skills? The city of culture, Kolkata has these amazing theatre groups that are nurturing young and budding theatre artists in India.
Nandikar
This theatre group is popular for being one of the oldest groups in the city with several renowned actors working and polishing their talent, like Rudraprasad Sengupta, Sohini Sengupta and Debshankar Halder. For the time, they have stopped taking applications of new aspirants but we have good news for you - they run a six-month course workshop for dedicated theatre artists in India. The troupe has some senior artists as teachers and mentors to help and guide students to become better at expressing their emotions in a theatrical manner.
Bohushwar
This theatre group is only a year old but has some really good, experienced artists that have carved their place in the theatre world. They keep organising shows and workshops year round for every inspirational group of actor out there. Work and learn with them!
We highly recommend this one, they don’t have any joining charges too.
Mad About Drama
MAD has a slightly different concept of preaching theatre in the sense that it is only for the youth of the nation. It was in December 2011 that three acting enthusiasts - Sohan Majumdar, Soumendra Bhattacharya and Soumya Mukherjee started this free spirited theatre group which rapidly gained popularity. Just keep a lookout for their responsive Facebook ads for audition dates and join the bandwagon.
Bodnaam
This theatre group initially pulled off as a college acting group of Heritage College of Engineering. Overtime with the brainchild of a few acting lovers, it has now become an independent theatre group. They have a number of successful shows added to their armour while street plays that escalate modern life issues are their stronghold. They conduct rehearsing session 4 days a week and have hoards of young students working with them. So, get down to audition and join their group now.
